CHANCE

"I can't believe you're making me do this," Rose said, as we rode up to the Lenox house. The closer we came, the surlier her demeanor grew.

She'd grudgingly packed a bag with some clothes for the stay with her family while I was gone. It would be about a week, but if I had my way, I'd push through to make it shorter. When I'd signed the contract over the winter to gain the head of cattle, I'd had no idea I'd have a bride to leave behind.

"I just spent two days fucking you, kitten. I figured you'd recognize who's in charge by now."

She turned in her saddle. "Are you saying that one time you let me be in control was just pretend?"

I tipped my hat back a tad so I could see her better. "Did my cock pretend to be hard? Was all that seed that filled you pretend?"

"That's not what I mean and you know it," she countered, her voice prim.

"You can take control any time you wish when we're fucking because it's hot as hell. Just remember, I gave you the control."

She shook her head with what I assumed was disgust. "You're such a bastard." Clucking her tongue, she spurred her horse to quicken her pace. I did as well to keep up.

I tsked her. "Language, kitten. You didn't enjoy yourself?" I loved to talk dirty to her, loved to see the flush that came over her cheeks, the prim way her posture straightened and her attitude changed to that of a virgin schoolmarm. "We are not having this conversation."

I sighed. There was nothing I could do except explain it again. We'd had this argument over and over the past two days and each time there was no resolution. "Why would you worry?"

"I thought we were to run the ranch together," she continued.

I took my hat off my head, ran my hand through my hair, put it back. "Did it ever occur to you that you might be with child? I might be protecting you, but you need to protect a baby."

Her mouth fell open but no words escaped. "A baby? You can't be serious."

"Dead serious, kitten. How many times have we fucked? How much seed did I put in your belly? I bet some's dripping out of your right now.
